Some Diawas are supposed to lay line somewhat uneven to the eye. Even those can foul up and need some tinkering. Some cheaper reels don’t use the shims, therefore they can’t be worn down.

If it wasn’t having the issue prior, then something may have happened to the reel. MQ series are great solid reels. Are you using different line than before? Could be as simple as using too thick of a diameter of line than the reel is meant for. Is it making new noises? How does the reel turn without any load on it?

I’m right handed. I spin with left. Conventional, I retrieve with right. Baitcasters, left.

Right now I’ve only seen smaller ones near inlets and marsh type areas. Little bit later in the year the larger ones should be back. Get the cast net ready.

Just a basic fish finder rig with a proper hook. I usually use 4/0 or 5/0 for slot fish. J hooks from pier unless you’re running rod holders. Rod holders from pier or surf, I use circle hooks with tighter drag. Peeler crab, fresh shrimp, mullet, bunker, spot. They eat it all. Fish close to shore, no reason to launch it a mile in this area. No, if you take them back out after spooling, the original issue will remain.

In general all spinning reels will lay line up and down the spool. Some spool tighter, some not. My best guess is the gear (or one of them) is not catching so the spool stays in same position. I’d stop the headaches of untangling line and paying for new line and get a different reel. The bg is a great reel that is very versatile. I’ve seen them new on marketplace for under $70 for 4K size

Either google search the part or you can make them yourself. I know a lot of people who use bottle caps that are cut down. But I’ll tell you before hand, it can get nerve racking (unspooling and respooling) when trying to get the right thickness of the shims. But I’d contact customer support with the company and see if they can sell some to you directly.
